MOVING INTO STILLNESS: A YOGA & MEDITATION WORKSHOP
with Betsy Weiss and Pamela Weiss
Saturday, July 15
2:00 to 4:30 pm
$40 Preregistration/$45 at the door
Yoga is an ancient discipline believed to have been developed as a vehicle for meditation. The practice of yoga prepares the body for stillness by creating strength, stamina and a calm nervous system. This workshop will weave the complementary disciplines of yoga and meditation to enhance their power and impact. We will practice yoga poses that support opening and strengthening the body and you will be given detailed instruction in sitting, standing and walking meditation. In addition to the physical practices, there will be a dharma talk and discussion about ways to integrate mindfulness into daily life.
Pamela Weiss is a Buddhist meditation teacher and executive coach. She has practiced meditation for the past 30 years and is trained in both Zen and Vipassana. Pamela leads classes and retreats at San Francisco Insight, Spirit Rock and Tassajara. She is a popular public speaker and offers workshops and talks inside organizations. She is also Betsy’s sister.
YOGA FOR PERSISTENT PAIN
Saturday, August 19
1:00 to 4:00 pm
Pain is part of the human experience. Living in the face of pain can be isolating and frustrating. But with a better understanding of pain and its possible sources, we can start to view it in a different way—allowing us to live our lives without fear and begin to do the things we wish to do. Participants will learn about the science of pain, how to use the brain to alter the pain experience, and experience yoga (asana, breath & philosophy) to ease life with persistent pain. This workshop is both presentation and experiential. No yoga experience necessary.
