Nancy Clarke
Nancy Clarke, Co-Director of Island Yoga, teaches Hatha Yoga as a practical method of gaining freedom. Nancy's classes can be challenging and invigorating, deep, peaceful; there is discovery, zeal, and fun, and a broad experience of Yoga's eight limbs. She is inspired by the crafts of music and dance.Nancy began teaching Yoga in Alameda in 2006, and has a 400-hour teaching certificate with Susannah Bruder of Yoga Sita with training to focus the wisdom of ancient Yoga texts and practices on the obstructions of present-day living. She continues her studies with Susannah and trains in Shadow Yoga with Andy Matinog and Mark Horner.

Marcia Newlin
Marcia Newlin, Co-Director of Island Yoga, began practicing yoga in the late 1980's and has been a student of Iyengar yoga since 2000. Through her own practice she has experienced the therapeutic powers of yoga. She enjoys sharing the benefits of the practice with her students - whatever their level - with challenging yet approachable sequences to gain greater strength, flexibility, and balance, along with a sense of lightness in the body and calmness in the mind. She teaches her classes in the Iyengar style, focusing on the principles of alignment and proper movement in the yoga postures.Marcia is a graduate of the Advanced Studies Program from the Yoga Room in Berkeley, California - a three year program with over 1,000 hours of teacher-training. She is also a certified Relax and Renew Trainer through Judith Lasater's accredited program. She draws inspiration from her own teachers; Donald Moyer, Mary Lou Weprin, and Michael Lucey.

Dina Hondrogen
Dina Hondrogen has been teaching yoga since 1997 in the San Francisco Bay Area. She holds a certificate from the Iyengar Yoga Institute in San Francisco. She was drawn to yoga after the pain from a chronic neck problem and then injury became unbearable and she had to stop working and dancing. The use of props and in-depth instruction of Iyengar Yoga brought her relief and gave her the tools to heal herself. She became an enthusiastic practitioner, then attended the Iyengar Yoga Institute for two years. Soon after this, she studied other types of Yoga, Ayurveda, Pilates, and various forms of movement and meditation which she integrated into her teaching. Dina continues to be open to new tools and techniques, melding the best into her practice. She places emphasis not only on the body but also works with the mind and emotions which she feels are central aspects of yoga. She is the mother of two.
Tony Perez
Tony Perez, a firefighter, found Yoga 14 years ago as a path to wellness, health, and balance, and as a way to help with injuries sustained in athletics and firefighting. Teachers include Sharinjit Sandhu, Nancy Randall, Susannah Bruder, Zhander Remete, Andy Matinog, and Nancy Clarke; Tony has 600 hours of Teacher Training through the Iyengar Institute and Susannah Bruder of Yoga Sita. Cristin Shea
Cristin Shea has been practicing Yoga for over 16 years. She trained with her mentor, Tim Thompson, of Monkey Yoga Shala for 10 years; became certified in Ashtanga Yoga from It's Yoga in San Francisco in 2005; taught Yoga at Alameda's Dance/10 for 6 years. She named her teaching Ahimsa Flow Yoga: "ahimsa" for non-violence and "flow" for the vinyasa, or linked poses, of moving meditation. Cristin shares these twin tools to help navigate our ever-changing environment more peacefully and authentically.

Valerie Lawson Smith
Valerie Lawson Smith is certified to teach T'ai Chi Chih by master and originator Justin Stone. She has been teaching T'ai Chi Chih to people of all ages since 1980. Her goal in teaching is to not only provide a serene and meditative classroom practice, but to also give meticulous instruction in technique, empowering the student to learn and master the forms, so that they may take the gift of the practice with them.Valerie has specialized in teaching adaptive exercise for older adults. She has a degree in Sports Psychology, and is also a certified Pilates instructor.

Annabelle Teleki
Annabelle first discovered Yoga in 1997, and since has practiced many forms and styles under the Hatha Yoga umbrella. She began teaching in Mexico in 2007 while living in the Yucatan. Annabelle is certified with YogaWorks as well as having completed many hours of study in Janet Stone's 5 Elements Vinyasa Teacher Training in San Francisco. Annabelle's teaching style incorporates Iyengar, Ashtanga and Viniyoga, with a strong focus on Vinyasa Flow. Linking breath with movement, awareness, and the continuous rejoining of the body, mind and spirit, Annabelle guides her students towards opening their minds and hearts. Honoring individual limits while exploring that ever-changing edge are a strong part of Annabelle's teaching. She continues her education, attending workshops and immersions regularly. She has studied with and is inspired by many teachers… Seane Corn, Sarah Powers, Donna Farhi, Max Strom and Judith Hanson Lasater are among them. Melanie Tormos
Melanie was first drawn to Yoga in 2002. She began a gentle practice while in treatment for an eating disorder and credits yoga as a powerful force in her recovery. With joy and curiosity she continued her studies, and took her teacher training under Audrey Walzer of Camarillo Yoga Center. Melanie's four years of teaching in studios, gyms, colleges, and at the corporate level have brought her students age 7 to 92 with a wide range of physical abilities and personalities. Her work as a personal trainer and certified massage therapist contributes to her deep understanding of anatomy and physiology.Melanie's classes are based in the Ashtanga, Viniyoga and Iyengar styles with an emphasis on alignment, breath and flow. She brings compassion, humor and reverence into the studio, creating a sacred space for her students in which they can release self-judgment and cultivate greater awareness and self-acceptance.

Betsy Weiss
Betsy Weiss began practicing Iyengar yoga in 1988 and graduated from the Berkeley Yoga Room's Advanced Studies Program in 1996. She holds an Advanced Relax and Renew certificate and has assisted Judith Hanson Lasater in training restorative yoga instructors. Betsy teaches restorative yoga classes the last week of every month. She also has training in the Egoscue method and teaches an Egoscue class on the rare third class of months with five classes.
Betsy lives in Alameda with her husband, daughter, rabbit, 2 dogs and 6 chickens. She is an elementary school teacher and on a women's rowing team. Betsy has found that yoga provides equanimity to her full life. She enjoys assisting other people in their quest for self-awareness through her teaching.
